NEW BALANCE TRACK MEET #2 The second segment of the New Balance Track Meet Series took place in Calgary on Sunday May 28th. Four Passtrak athletes attended the meet and produced some very respectable results including 3 life time best performances and 4 new Passtrak club records. They also picked up 3 silver medals along the way. Paige Richards had 2 events ion the Midget girls category which includes all athletes who are 14 & 15 years old. She ran the fastest 100 metres of her life in 13.76 seconds for a 13th place finish. She then added 47 cm to her previous best long jump by clearing 4.36 metres for 10th place. Alina Pharis was also in the Midget girls age group. She cut more than 2 seconds off her previous best in the 150 metres, crossing the finish line in 23.19 seconds. Her time set a new Passtrak club record for that event. her best discus throw of the day was 14.76 metres for 7th place overall. Ethan Richards contested 1 event only, the 400 metres, in the Junior Men’s division, (18 & 19 years old). He missed a life time best by 5/100’s of a second finishing 5th in 54.48 seconds. Leona Pharis was competing in her first official outdoor competition in a Passtrak uniform. She is in the 40 - 44 Masters age group. She was the busiest of the Passtrak athletes with 3 events. She earned a silver medal in the 150 metre race in 25.94 seconds which was also a new Passtrak club record for her age group. Then she cleared 1.14 metres in the high jump for another silver medal and another new Passtrak club record. Just so she could remain consistent she placed second in the discus with a toss of 14.50 metres for a third new Passtrak club record.
￼ST. ALBERT CHALLENGE TRACK & FIELD MEET Two Passtrak athletes attended the meet in St. Albert on May 27th & 28th. They participated in 14 events and produced 5 life time best performances for their efforts and brought home gold medal as well. Sawyer Sawatzky had 6 events in the Peewee boys, (10 & 11 years old), age group. He improved his distance in the shot put by over a full metre with a heave of 6.48 metres for 4th place. He then added 27 cm to his best ever long jump by clearing 3.28 metres for 10th place. He also earned himself a first place in the turbo javelin event by tossing it 16.81 metres. Jack Bailey showed significant improvement in his Bantam boys, (12 & 13 years old), events over the weekend. He cut 3 seconds off his best time in the 800 metres by finishing in 3:41.96. He then added 10 cm to his high jump best by clearing 1.10 metres. He also increased his shot put best by 10 cm when it landed at the 5.07 metre mark.

￼NEW BALANCE TRACK MEET #1 This track and field meet took place in Calgary on May 20th. It is the first meet in a 3 part series of mini-meets for athletes who are 14 years old or older. The competition is divided into 2 age groups. Midgets, who are 14 & 15 years old and Open age for those who are 16 years old or older. The athletes accumulate points for their performances over the 3 meet series and prizes are awarded at the end for the top scorers and best performances in each of the age groups. Passtrak had 2 athletes attend this first meet, one in each age group. Paige Richards had 2 events in the Midget girls category. She placed 9th in the 100 metres in 13.94 seconds. In the 80 metre hurdles she placed 5th in 14.54 seconds. Ethan Richards was in the Open category. He earned a 3rd place finish running the 200 metres in 24.07 seconds. He then tossed the javelin 28.70 metres for a first place finish.

￼CALGARY SPRING CHALLENGE The first outdoor track and field competition of the 2017 season took place in Calgary on May 13th & 14th. Seven athletes represented the local track & field club, (Passtrak), in a total of 52 events. Together they set 13 new Passtrak club records in their respective age groups and also managed to pick up 1 silver and 1 bronze medal for their efforts. Two of the athletes had competed previously with the club and they recorded 8 life time best performances in their events. Carson Hay had 8 events in the Tyke boys division which includes all athletes under the age of 10. He set 5 new Passtrak club records. He ran the 300 metres in 1:15.46 which cut more than a full second off the previous record. He then set a club record of 7.07 metres in the javelin event, a new record in the shot put with a 2.78 metre toss, clocked 33.62 seconds in the 150 metres for a new record and finally, ran the 600 metres in 2:44.68 setting a new Passtrak club record in that event as well. Sophia Herman took part in her first official competition as a Passtrak athlete. She contested 8 events in the Tyke division as well. She set a new Passtrak club record in the javelin with a 7.10 metre throw, and set a new record in the 150 metre race with a time of 31.58 seconds. She also earned herself a bronze medal in the shot put with a distance of 3.70 metres. Abigail Talbot was in the Peewee Girls category, (10 & 11 year old athletes). She ran the 60 metres in 11.14 seconds and the 600 metres in 2:47.17. She spanned 2.78 metres in the long jump and tossed the javelin 7.66 metres. Sawyer Sawatzky had 8 events in the Peewee Boys age group. He had a superb weekend where he improved in 5 of the 6 events he had previously contested. He ran a personal best of 10.67 seconds in the 60 metres, then carved 21 seconds off his previous time in the 600 metres by finishing in 2:12.18. His best in the running long jump increased by 9 cm to 3.01 metres. He clocked 25.21 seconds in the 150 metres for a 4.5 second improvement. He then added 25 cm to his life time best shot put by heaving it 5.47 metres. His javelin flew 18 .04 metres which broke the existing passtrak club record by 11.5 metres and also earned him a silver medal for his effort. Jack Bailey showed significant improvement in the Bantam Boys age group which includes athletes who are 12 & 13 years old. His long jump improved by 7 cm out to 3.02 metres. He cut almost 2 seconds off his 150 metre time by finishing in 28.74 seconds. He tied his best height of 1.00 metres in the high jump then set a new Passtrak club record in the javelin for his age group with a 10.95 metre throw. Drew Stuckey was in his first official track meet a s a Passtrak athlete. He was also in the Bantam boys group. He set 3 new Passtrak club records during the meet. He dropped the existing 80 metre record to 11.52 seconds then cut the 150 metre club record down to 22.57 seconds. He also broke the existing javelin record by throwing the implement 9.79 metres. Libbey Wilmot was also in her first meet in a Passtrak uniform. She was in the Bantam Girls division where she placed 6th in the 1200 metres in a time of 4:31.44. She also placed 6th in the javelin with a distance of 13.96 metres which set a new Passtrak club record for her age group. A clearance of 1.25 metres in the high jump earned her a 9th place finish out of 23 jumpers.
